Abstract

The article examines the process of settlement and adaptation of Moldovans in Kazakhstan. The aim of the study is to analyze the specific features of the adaptation of Moldovans in Kazakhstan in the pre-revolutionary period, in the early years of Soviet power, during the deportations of 1937–1938, and in the post-war years. The task of the research is to investigate the climatic, economic, everyday, and socio-cultural adaptation of Moldovans in Kazakhstan during these historical periods.

The source base of the work includes documents from the Central State Archive of the Republic of Kazakhstan, materials from the first All-Russian Census of 1897, all-Union censuses, as well as reference and encyclopedic materials. The study applies general scholarly methods (analysis, synthesis, generalization) and specialized historical methods (comparative-historical and bibliometric analysis).

The results describe everyday adaptation practices, including the construction of housing suited to the natural and climatic conditions of Kazakhstan and the establishment of Moldovan settlements. The article also traces the development of agriculture by Moldovan settlers in Kazakhstan and highlights the socio-cultural relations between migrants and the autochthonous population.
