The author describes the process of reception and adaptation of deported citizens of different ethnic groups in the Zhambyl region. The article stresses that despite the sometimes contradictory attitudes of the local population towards the special settlers, the kindness and hospitality of the Kazakhs prevailed over the ideological postulates of the regime. This was at a time when local collective farmers often did not receive enough food for their working days and their children suffered from hunger. The conclusion notes that, despite the hardships, the great tolerance of the Kazakh people enabled the deported peoples to receive education, improve their social status, improve their financial situation and find a new home in Kazakhstan.
