The article provides a comparative analysis of the employment of ethnic groups by economic sectors. The historical features of the economic behavior of ethnic groups and their influence on the current employment of the population are presented. On the example of the employment of Kazakhs, Russians, Germans, Koreans, Uighurs, Dungans and Tajiks, their economic niches are analyzed. Since 1991, a comparative analysis of ethnic employment has been carried out based on traditional historical experience, economic behavior, knowledge and skills of housekeeping. The hypothesis is confirmed that the historical features of the economic behavior of individual ethnic groups formed the basis of modern ethnic employment. It is concluded that the economic specialization that has developed among certain ethnic groups in some regions of Kazakhstan did not contribute to the formation of ethnic enclaves and threats of monopolization of market segments by representatives of certain ethnic groups. The directions of economic specialization of the ethnic groups of the republic are considered, recommendations for improving agricultural employment are proposed.
